I tried to video chat with her using ichat but it didn’t work, all that worked was the audio, and her laptop has a built in webcam. I wanted to know if there was some kind of software that enables us to video chat and see and hear each other.

Your friend might have some antivirus program disabling vid-chat. Turn off this for the time that you chat. Problems might also occur if either of you are connected via Internet with a WEP password… no remedies from Apple yet, sorry
